Phone it in，不是打電話的意思！(二)
「敷衍」除了phone it in之外，也還有幾個不同的表達，意境上也稍有不同。像去辦個證件，有些單位就會敷衍搪塞，「故意不幫忙」，這時我們可以用runaround這個字。
2、Don't give me the runaround.
（錯）不要給我跑來跑去。
（對）不要只是敷衍我。
Run和around如果分開來run around，就是「跑來跑去」。
★ I'm exhausted - I've been running around all morning.
我累壞了，一整個上午我一直忙個不停。
合在一起runaround就是其抽象的意思，「兜圈子、不直接回答、故意不幫忙」，其實就是敷衍。
★ I'm trying to get a new visa, but the embassy staff keep giving me the runaround.
我想要辦理新簽證，但是使館人員老是推諉不給我辦。
3、His smile was perfunctory.
（對）他的笑容很敷衍。
講到「敷衍」，也一定要提perfunctory這個字，是較正式的用法。
英英字典的解釋是：「done quickly, without taking care or interest」，很快就做好，但沒用心、也不在意，就是「草草了事、漫不經心，沒想要把事情做好。
★ He answered the phone with a perfunctory greeting.
他漫不經心接起電話。
