A smart cookie，是在稱讚？還是批評？(一)
最近公司有新同事加入，Jennifer問外籍老闆，新進的同事如何，老闆說：
He is a smart cookie.
「聰明的餅乾」？Jennifer搞不清楚老闆是在稱讚，還是批評這個新人？
1、He is a smart cookie.
（錯）他是個聰明的餅乾。
（對）他是個聰明人。
美國人講餅乾，喜歡用Cookie，英國人用biscuit。
Cookie除了「餅乾」的意思外，也有「… type of person」（什麼樣的人）之意，所以smart cookie指「聰明的人」。
除了smart cookie，還有tough cookie，不難猜到是「頑強的人」，指做事幹練，態度強悍，不容易受到傷害的那種人。
★ The head office hired a new HR director who has a reputation for being a tough cookie.
總公司雇用了一位新的人力資源總監，他以強悍、意志頑強而出名。
2、Don't get smart with me.
（錯）不要這麼聰明。
（對）不要沒大沒小。／別自以為聰明。
